Opening Night Party – “A Taste of Spring”

The Community Place of Greater Rochester Inc.

“A Taste of Spring,” a fundraising event for The Community Place of Greater Rochester (CPGR), will kick off GardenScape 2019 with a special preview of this spectacular flower show on Wednesday, March 13th from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at The Dome Center.

The Community Place of Greater Rochester is a non-profit human service agency that builds community by helping families to meet their basic needs while promoting health, wellness, and education.

Guests of “A Taste of Spring” will stroll through beautiful gardens and enjoy an hors d’oeuvres reception, dessert, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage tastings, and live music before the doors open to the general public on March 14th. CPGR also will sell fresh flowers at the preview reception and at the show itself.

Tickets for this special event are $50.00 per person and may be purchased on the CPGR website at www.communityplace.org or by calling 585-327-7200 x113.

“We appreciate GardenScape’s partnership with our entire community,” said Scott Benjamin, CEO of The Community Place of Greater Rochester.  “This event provides a great forum to share the work being done by the Community Place to plant seeds of opportunity within challenged neighborhoods of our city.  Just as GardenScape celebrates the natural beauty of our region Community Place celebrates the assets that all people bring to our society.”

The Community Place was founded on the belief that everyone should enjoy the same health, economic, and social opportunities no matter who they are or where they live. It was created as a merger of the Lewis Street Center, Genesee Settlement House and Eastside Community Center and primarily serves residents of Northeast Rochester.

CPGR offers educational programs for young children and young adults, supports teens with programs addressing drug and alcohol prevention, and runs programs for youth with developmental disabilities.  It also features programs that help older adults to remain healthy and independent, as well as programs that provide food and other basic needs for challenged individuals and families.  Some 10,000 individuals annually benefit from CPGR programs and services.

Senior Day

The Community Place of Greater Rochester Inc.

For the second consecutive year, Episcopal SeniorLife Communities (ESLC) will sponsor Senior Day on Thursday, March 14, the opening day of GardenScape.

Attendees age 65 and older will be able to purchase a discounted ticket that day for $10.  ESLC also will have its own booth for all four days of GardenScape.

“We are pleased to renew our sponsorship of Senior Day for this great flower show, which always brings a breath of spring to our community,” said Courtney McGinness, ESLC Vice President of Community Outreach. “Many of the residents in our communities enjoy gardening, and we look forward to greeting many seniors from the Rochester area on opening day and every day throughout this spectacular event.”

ESLC, which celebrated its 150th anniversary last year, was established in 1868 as the Episcopal Church Home, serving women and children. Over a century and a half, this faith-based, nonprofit organization has expanded exponentially, providing a full continuum of care and housing options for seniors throughout greater Rochester. In addition, Neighborhood Programs promote health and wellness to seniors in the surrounding areas of their communities, expanding traditional services and allowing seniors to age in their place of choice. Their focus on each individual makes them one of the most trusted providers of senior care in the Rochester area.

“We are delighted to have Episcopal SeniorLife Communities return as a sponsor for GardenScape 2019,” said Sharlene Reeves, show chairperson. “Senior Day has been a hallmark of GardenScape through the years, and we know many seniors in our community will take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy the first day of the show.”
